The Iraqi Cultural Attaché in New Delhi participated in the academic event organized by the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (UNESCO MGIEP), which featured the Twelfth Distinguished Lecture delivered by Professor Dr. jur. Cecilia M. Bailliet, Professor of International Law at the University of Oslo, Norway, and United Nations Independent Expert on Human Rights and International Solidarity, held on 10 November 2025 at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

The lecture addressed the importance of promoting Education for Peace at the global level, in light of the current international transformations toward multipolarity and the challenges arising from conflict management and the need to uphold the values of human solidarity. Professor Bailliet discussed the normative evolution of the concept of peace within international law and emphasized the necessity of involving women in peace negotiations and peacebuilding processes. She further highlighted that fostering a culture of peace begins within local communities through education and mutual understanding.

It is noteworthy that this lecture was part of a series of events organized by UNESCO MGIEP to promote a culture of peace and solidarity among peoples, with the participation of distinguished scholars and international experts.
